ThermoTank water heat pump
The 200 litre ThermoTank hot water heat pump system from Magneto only consumes 750 watts of electricty and was specifically designed so that it can be used in conjunction with your solar PV installation.

The ThermoTank is a thermal low pressure integrated heat exchange system which is designed to reduce electricity consumption by harnessing ambient heat in the atmosphere and transferring this heat to the water stored in the insulated water tank.
The low pressure insulated water tank acts as a hot water battery that stores water at 60° Celsius. This water remains in the tank to heat water that is passed through the system.
The high pressure water supplied by the water mains, enters the hot water tank through a heating coil placed inside the stored hot water and this is where the heat exchange takes place. By the time the water exits the heating coil it is up to temperature.
The heat pump monitors the temperature of the water inside the water storage tank and regulates it to maintain the pre-determined temperature.
- Only uses 750W of power.
- Has a 2 kW backup element in case the water temperature needs boosting
- No lime scale build-up.
- Non-pressurised tank – no more burst geysers!
- High-pressure heat exchange coils allow for conventional water pressure to the house.
- WI-FI enabled to allow remote operation.
- Plug and Play type installation, no need for vacuum breakers or TP valves.
- 200lt ThermoTank
- Installation
- 5 meters of cabling and copper piping (extra meters and labour to be quoted on site)
- 3-year warranty on electronics inland installation, and 10 years on tank
- 1-year warranty on electronics coastal installation within 10km from sea
- 10-year warranty on tank
The Magneto Thermo tank has to be installed on a perfectly level surface area for normal operation.
Magneto does provide the following add-on products:
- Adjustable powder coated steel plinth to provide a stable platform for the tank to stand on, where this may be required
- Deflector ducting for inlet and exhaust ports, where this might be needed
NOTE: A site inpection is conducted and if the above is required, this will be added to the quote.

The ThermoTank only uses 750 watts of electricity compared to the typical 4 000 watts on a conventional 200L geyser. This allows for between 53% saving in winter to 68% savings in summer.
Yes, but this solution is not recommended for inverters smaller than 3KW.
Yes, the ThermoTank can adjust up to 60 degrees on heat pump mode only, and up to 70 degrees in mixed or element mode.
The back-up heating element will only come on if the tank temperature drops below 35⁰ and, in that case, heats up the water to 60⁰ quickly.
The heat pump can operate in a temperature range of -5⁰ to 45⁰ Celsius. You can also boost the temperatures with the mix mode to 70⁰, if needed.
This depends on how much hot water is used, but on average around 1.5 to 2 hours every time someone takes a bath to reheat to 60⁰ Celsius.
Solar geysers only work when the sun shines. If it is cloudy or at night, the electric element has to heat the water making them less efficient in these cases. The ThermoTank can run day or night, sunshine or rain.
Yes, you can download a free app called “Smart life”, which will give you full control over the ThermoTank, including changing modes, timers and temperatures to your liking.
The ThermoTank has a rating of 54 decibels which is considered to be relatively quiet. To provide some context:
- 30 dB: Whispering at a distance of 1.5 meters
- 40 dB: Quiet library or a quiet rural area at night
- 50 dB: Quiet office environment or a conversation at home
- 60 dB: Normal conversation or background music in a restaurant
- 70 dB: Vacuum cleaner at a distance of 3 meters
Yes, the ThermoTank is built to stand outside, but some installs have been done inside a room or garage. In this case, the cold air must be deflected away from the machine with ducting.
Yes, but we suggest a qualified plumber or accredited installer to install the unit to make sure the plumbing is done according to SANS standards.
The footprint is about 1m² plus some space at the back to connect the pipes.
No, unless it is installed directly under a roof or overhang where excessive rainwater can pour directly onto it from above.
Yes, all major insurance companies have agreed to support the ThermoTank as an alternative to conventional geysers.
Yes, Warrantee and Compliancy Certification (WACC) has issued the ThermoTank with a Certification of compliance. The CoC can be obtained online from www.waccsa.co.za.
Yes, in order for the warranty to be maintained the unit has to be serviced and cleaned once a year. Where needed, the antifreeze is also topped up in the tank. A typical service can range from R890 to R 1700 depending on travel distance.
Magneto has some of the early models now running more than 4 years without any problems and it expects them to last 10 to 15 years, if serviced adequately.
Magneto offers a 3-year warranty, and all spares and components are locally available at its factory.
The company has technical support teams in each province. Post the warranty period, support is still offered, but spares and labour will be for the customer’s cost.
